Robert Abplanalp, 59, UNG Land Man, Dies

Robert LeRoy Abplanalp, 59, of 317 W. Fifth St., United Natural Gas Company employe, died unexpectedly in his home at 9:45 p.m. Monday.

Mr. Abplanalp, a land man for UNG in the Titles and Contract Department, worked Monday. He had been employed by UNG for the past 36 years. For many years, he was an outstanding henpin bowler and he helped to organize various leagues, some of which for the first time became affiliated with the American Bowling Congress.

Born in Ridgway June 8, 1911, he was a son of A. U. and Christine Eckland Abplanalp, and moved from Ridgway to Oil City in 1929, residing here since.

He and the former Dorothy Riley were married August 5, 1941. She survives. Mr. Abplanalp was a member of St. Stephen Church and the Knights of Columbus. He also was a member of the BPO Elks of Oil City.

Surviving along with his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Abplanalp, are two sons, Robert M. Abplanalp of Chatham, N.J., and Thomas U. Alplanalp, serving with the United States Army in Japan; two brothers, Floyd P. Abplanalp of Philadelphia and David Abplanalp of Fairfield.

A brother, Bernard, died in 1953.

Removal was made to the Louis H. Osenider Funeral Home where friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral arrangements will be announced.

High mass of requiem will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Stephen Church for Robert LeRoy Abplanalp, 59, of 317. W. 5th St.

Memorial services will be held at 7:30 p.m. today in the funeral home by the BPO Elks of Oil City and the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home by the Knights of Columbus. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
