Suggested edit: Funeral bulletin
Fridolph Marvin Emanuel Bengtson was born May 1, 1908 to Pehr and Elin (Nelson) Bengtson on the family farm west of Wausa. He was the sixth of seven children. He was baptized into the Swedish Evangelical Mission Church and completed religious instruction in the Mission Church in 1923. He attended Wausa Public School through the eighth grade, usually driving a horse and wagon to attend school with his sisters. He then worked with his father on the farm.
He was married to Edith Evelyn Pearson on November 17, 1936. They began farming the family farm during the last years of the depression. When Fridolph began farming, the farm work was done with mules and work horses. Years later when he retired, the typical farm was three times as large and farm work was done with big tractors and self-propelled harvesters.
Roger Dean was born in 1941 and JoAnn Elaine in 1947. Fridolph encouraged and supported the family participation in 4-H and other community activities. He encouraged Roger and JoAnn to get an education. He was on the school board of Lincoln School, Dist. 158 and was on the Thabor Lutheran Church Council. Fridolph and Edith continued to live on the farm until 1991 when they moved to Wausa. Fridolph fell and broke his hip in February, 2001 and was hospitalized in Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD until his death on March 29, 2001.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Edith, their children and spouses, Roger and Billie Bengtson of Austin, TX, and JoAnn and Terry Wamberg of Wausa, NE who still live on the family farm. They have six grandchildren; Nissa and Chad Allred of Pleasant Grove, UT, Hans Bengtson, Winston-Salem, NC, Dennis Wamberg of Wausa, Rebecca and Brian Mackeprang of Rochester, MN, Kristi and Gaylen Nuesch, Pierce, NE and JoEllen Wamberg of Wausa. Great grandchildren are Carrick and Annie Allred, Tiara and Taryn Wamberg, Pete Mackeprang, and Lexy and Braden Nuesch. Fridolph was preceded in death by his parents and his brother and sisters and grandson Eric Lars Bengtson.
