Milford Gines was born a slave in Mississippi in about 1847. His father was David Gines; his mother's first name was Prissie; her surname is not known. Milford was held in slavery for psrt of his life at Marydale Plantation, Tensas Parish, Louisiana. Milford later married Rebecca Maner and they had at least three children. After Emancipation, Milford continued to farm at Marydale Plantation.
Note: Louisiana State Board of Health, Death Cert. Reg. # 5614. Death Certificate says he was interred at Marydale Plantation. This may not be correct.
