Professional Baseball Player. After attending Wake Forest University, he began his professional baseball career in major league baseball as a free agent as a second baseman and in the outfield. He made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut on September 13, 1939, with the Washington Senators. From the 1939 season until the 1941 season with the Senators he played in 19 games. After the Senators he played for the Brooklyn Dodgers for two seasons (1944 to 1945) and then the Boston Braves for one (1945). In his six years of professional baseball, he posted a batting average of .267 made three home runs and scored 32 runs all in 106 games. After leaving the majors he became a coach for numerous minor league teams, and he was also a scout for the Senators.
