Emma was the daughter of Christian and Concordia Schuhmann of Waldeck. She married John Bruckner and they had 10 children. They lived in Austin and later settled in Johnson City, Blanco County, Texas on part of the old Johnson family farm, which was later purchased by the Lyndon B. Johnson National Park. Their old stone barn is on display.
