The son of J.J. Abel & Ann James. Born in Harrison, Arkansas. He was a veteran of World War I, and married Alma Meeda Cherry on August 13, 1922 in Cherokee County, Arkansas. The couple moved to the Broken Arrow area in 1928 where they farmed and Thomas later retired from Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa. He died at a Broken Arrow nursing home from a blood clot, at age 77.
