MIKE BAILEY, 67, of Burden, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, August 8, 2009 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.
Born on March 19, 1942 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Maxwell and Maxine (Tredway) Bailey. He was raised and received his education in Burden and graduated from Burden High School in 1960. He later attended and graduated from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas. In 1973, Michel began employment for Grief Brothers where he was a purchasing specialist and was employed there at the time of his death.
He was a lifelong member of the Burden Baptist Church. Michel had served as chairman of the Democratic Party of Cowley County, and served on the Central of Burden School Board. He also belonged to the Grief Brothers Credit Union, the Ark City Credit Union and had recently become a member of the NRA. He dearly loved music, especially playing the piano and singing and he followed the sporting events in Burden.
His family includes: His brother: Merlyn Bailey and wife Marjory of Lawton, OK; His longtime special friend: Judy Colvin of Burden, KS; His nieces: Sarah Coy and husband David and family, Kelly & Melissa; Lydia Hellickson and husband Terry and family, Christopher Bailey and Katherine Hellickson all of Lawton, OK; His nephew: Thomas Bailey and daughter, Jordan Bailey; His uncle: Don Bailey and wife Lucille of Burden, KS; and His aunts: Doris Lewis of Marion, IA; and Mary Bailey of Independence, KS.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Melvin; and his sister, Brenda.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at the Burden Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Burden Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M., Monday, August 10, 2009. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., that evening.
