George C. Adams, aged 89, of Alexandria and most recently, Baton Rouge, passed on February 15, 2014. He attended LA. Tech University, earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering. George was a retired General Contractor, and spent many happy hours hunting and fishing at his beloved Catahoula Lake. His life changed from carefree bachelor to husband and Father of six children when he married Carolyn Mayeux Songy, then widowed, in 1963, then seven upon the birth of their son Charles in 1964. George is survived by his wife, Carolyn, and their seven children: Gerald 'Chip' Songy (Baton Rouge), Fran Songy Randall (Chattanooga), James Songy (Seattle), Julie Songy Durkee and her husband Bruce,(Atlanta), Michael Songy and his wife Jean Anne (Baton Rouge), David Songy and his wife Lisa(Atlanta), Charles Adams and his wife Danielle (Huntsville, AL) as well as seventeen grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. He is pre-deceased by his parents, George Newton Adams and Hallie Bardmaker Adams, and three sisters, Polly Adams Gayle, Kathryn Adams, and Jane Adams Allen. George and Carolyn had recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on August 10, 2013 with family members. A Funeral mass will be held at Our Lady Of Mercy Catholic Church on Monday, Feb 17 at 10am. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9-10 am in the church. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Pineville, LA, at 3pm on Monday, Feb 17. Alexandria friends are encouraged to join the family there. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Vincent de Paul Society, po box 127, Baton Rouge, LA 70821. Arrangements will be handled by Rabenhorst Funeral Home, Government Street, in Baton Rouge.
