Mary was the daughter of David W. & Mildred J. (Bostick) Heard. She had two siblings, John Bostick & David Woodson (known as Woodie).

An announcement of her marriage to Ernest Junior Altgelt was published in a San Antonio newspaper, The Daily Light, on December 6, 1895.

"The marriage of Miss Mamie Heard to Ernest A. Altgelt is announced to take place in St. Mark's church, Tuesday, December 17, 9 a.m."

Over the years Ernest stayed busy with land deals, and Mary stayed busy having children and seeing to their care.

Mary gave birth to Augustus Albert on September 2, 1896. Her second son, Woodward Woodson, arrived on Christmas day, 1902, and to Ernest Junior on September 28, 1905.

Mary was especially happy when little Ernest won a baby contest at the fair.

"PRIZE WINNERS IN THE BABY CONTEST
