James Brown

Statesboro - James Brown, 76, died Monday at Bulloch Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

He was born in Bulloch County and was a steward of Greater Bethel AME Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was retired from Brooks Instruments and Georgia Southern University.

Surviving are his wife, Lillie Mae Brown of Statesboro; three daughters, Beverly Brown-Wilson of Savannah, Marsha Brown-Twiggs of Hinesville and Polly D. Brown of Lithonia; three sons, Benton Burdin of Neptune, N.J., Reginald B. Brown of Decatur and Terry Brown of Lithonia; three sisters, Mrs. Gussie Shine of Niagara Falls, N.Y., Alice Lewis of Statesboro and Mamie H. Lee of Savannah; three brothers, Robert Brown of Lockport, N.Y., Melvin V. Brown of Savannah and Walter Brown of Palmetto, Fla.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and several cousins.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday at Greater Bethel AME Church, burial in St. Mary's United Methodist Church Cemetery in Brooklet.
