George was the son of Jason and Sallie (Bryant) Adams. His first wife was Myrtle Kidd, and his second wife was Anna Goings.
George and Myrtle were the parents of Opal Adams Cohen. George and Anna raised Anna's niece Georgia Marie Goings.

Funeral services were held at the Lair-Nunnelee Chapel at 2 pm Tuesday for George W. Adams who died suddenly at his home on 416 West Commercial at 11 a.m. Sunday. the Rev. J. J. Willie, pastor of the Methodist church in Bertrand conducted the services with burial at Oak Grove cemetery.
Mr. Adams was born near Charleston May 17, 1876. He was a retired painter.
Besides his wife, Mrs. Anna Adams, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Georgia Marie Chillcut, of Kansas City, and Mrs. Opal Cohen of Houston, Texas. Two grandchildren, Shirley Ann and Mylene Sanders, also survive.
Pallbearers were: John Fleurdelys, Robert Chron, Nat Lee, R. L. Shelby, Dave Tinnell, and Bill Finley.
