O.L. AIKIN DIED AT HOME HERE LAST NIGHT
Oliver L. Aikin, for 73 years a resident of this county, died at his home here last night at 11:45. He had been in failing health since this summer but had become seriously ill only a short time before his death.
Mr. Aikin was born August 22, 1874 on the Oxbow in this county in the log cabin now in Harbine Park here. He lived all of his life in this county with the exception of two years spent in Republican City.
Surviving besides his wife, are two sons, Ralph, of Nelson, and Joe of Beatrice; five daughters, Mrs. Al Bigley, Corpus Christi, Tex.; Mrs. Helen Mercier, Pasco, Wash.; Mrs. Preston Olderog, Dallas, Tex.; Mrs. Herman Hinz, Waverly, Mo.; and Mrs. L.W. Richling, Omaha; and two sisters, Mrs. Grace Moss, Burbank, Calif.; and Mrs. Bert Hewitt, Superior.
Funeral arrangements are not as yet completed.

OLIVER LEWIS AIKIN
Oliver Lewis Aikin, son of R.M. and Talitha Aikin, was born August 22, 1874, in a log cabin in the Oxbow community near Nelson, Nebraska. The cabin still stands in Harbine Park, a gift from the Aikin family to the Boy Scouts. He passed away at his home in Nelson, Nebraska, December 28, 1949, following an extending illness.
Brother Aikin grew up in the Oxbow community and was baptized into the Christian Church there as a young man. He later transferred his membership to the Christian Church in Nelson where he served faithfully as an elder for many years. Due to his illness, he was unable to attend church along towards the last, but his thoughts were constantly with the church and its progress.
He took a very active part in the music of the church as well as in any position where his services were needed.
His life was an example of Christianity to all in this community who knew him.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife, Bertha, five daughters: Mrs. Gordon Mercier of Pasco, Washington; Mrs. A.L. Bigley of Corpus Christi, Texas; Mrs. L.W. Richling of Omaha; Mrs. Herman Hinz of Waverly, Missouri; Mrs. P.E. Olderog of Dallas, Texas; two sons: Ralph Aikin of Nelson and Joe Aikin of Beatrice; two sisters, Mrs. Bert Hewitt of Superior and Mrs. Grace Moss of Burbank, California; eight grandchildren, one great grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends. Another son, Jonas William, preceded him in death at the age of three.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock, Saturday, December 31, at the Christian Church in Nelson, with the Rev. Howard Anderson in charge. The music was provided by Mrs. Harold Wood, Mrs. Jas. F. Murphy, J.E. Portwood and Herbert Ferebee, with Mrs. J.W. Kennedy at the piano.
The pallbearers were: Floyd Rouse, James House, Con Whiteley, J.W. Kennedy, C.A. Chamberlain and Davis Smith.
Burial was made in the Nelson Cemetery.
