Virginia B. Allison, 95, of South Haven, passed away Monday, October 5, 2015 at Countryside Nursing and Rehabilitation Community with her daughter by her side.

She was born December 15, 1919 in Kansas, Missouri to the union of Frank and Cora Hunter. Virginia met and married Odis Allison in 1952 in Chicago, Illinois.

She was employed at South Haven Health Systems for 25 years and was the first woman of color to work as an Operating Room Tech. She was also a member of the Black Honor Society and AARP. Virginia had a passion of helping others in need.
She was a long time member of Emmanuel Community Church where she served as a Steward. She loved the Lord.

Virginia decided to move to the nursing home to be with and take care of her husband Odis after he had been there for a year, now that’s what you call “True love”.

In Heaven, she joins her parents, husband – Odis, Brothers, Charles (Queenester) Hunter and Fred (Clotell) Hunter, sisters – Leona (Sam) Arzatie, Pearl (Montgomery) Cook, Helen (George) Gregory, and Luceial (Lavert) Gregory. She is also preceded in death by two children – Welton (Carol) Kage, Jr. and Franic (Theodore) St. James.
Virginia is survived by two children – Odis (Carol) Allison, Jr., and Deborah (Charles) Brown, a sister – Della Mae (Harold) Davis. She was also blessed with 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 15 great great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A wake was held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the Emmanuel Community Church. Funeral services followed the wake at 12:00 PM, with Rev. Douglas W. Pompey officiating.

Virginia was laid to rest at Chambers Cemetery in Geneva Township. A repass was held at the Emmanuel Community Church, 322 Elkenburg Street, South Haven, Michigan 49090.
