Alecia was born in Ajo, Arizona on June 28, 1931 to Juan and Rosario Romero Alegria [also spelled "Allegria']. Her father was born about 1901 in Quitobaca, Mexico. Her mother was born about 1907 in Tempe, Arizona. Alecia was the third child born to this couple. The 1930 census lists a brother Juan Jr., born in 1927 and a sister Candelaria born in 1929. Also in the household was Rosario's mother Paubla B Romero, born about 1872. Juan Alegria Sr. was employed as a laborer at the Ajo Copper mine during this time.
Alecia Romero Alegria died on February 4, 1932 in part due to problems brought on by malnutrition. She was buried at the Ajo Cemetery.
The Ajo mine shut down for two years in 1932. Many families left seeking work elsewhere, some returned to Mexico. This family appears to have moved out of Ajo. (See Juan Alegria and Candelaria Ramirez.)
