The family moved from Ohio to Indiana. After a few years residence in that state, where his father died of the rabies, 18 years after he was bitten by a mad dog. George moved with his mother and family to Jefferson county, Kansas, in 1858, locating near the present site of Rock Creek.

Jane was born 28 Sep 1818 in Ohio and died 06 Aug 1863 in Jefferson Co, Kansas. Jane was 44 years, 10 months, and 8 days at the time of her death.
