To be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord." II Cor. 5:8 Roy Alfred Lambert Sr., 62, of Roanoke, started his heavenly journey on Thursday, July 31, 2008, after a courageous battle with a difficult illness. Roy was a devoted Christian, husband, father, grandfather and friend. With his favorite scripture John 14 Roy knew he would have a glorious home in heaven with his Savior. Roy was born April 20, 1946, in Roanoke, a son of the late Hallie Dewey Lambert and Audrey Mae Brown Lambert Ratliff. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Lewis Lambert; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Willie Jackson McDowell and Cathleen Adkins McDowell. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty Jo McDowell Lambert; two sons, Roy Alfred Lambert Jr. and wife, Becky, and Jeffrey Alan Lambert; two grandsons, Shane Wesley Lambert and Cody Tyler Lambert; brother, Aubrey Lambert and wife, Margaret; sister-in-law, Jean Lambert Custer, all of Roanoke; two uncles, James Brown, of Roanoke, and Robert Hufnell, of Bon Air; special aunt, Ruth McDowell, of Roanoke; brother-in-law, Guy W. McDowell and companion, Janie Duryea, of Fayetteville, N.C.; two sisters-in-law, Judy Ray and husband, Elmond, of Spring Lake, N.C., and Bonnie Lyle and husband, Hal, of Asheville, N.C.; longtime devoted friends, Rodger and Doris Chatting, of Roanoke; goddaughter, Megan Dudley; his wonderful co-workers at Roanoke City Schools Maintenance Dept.; church family at Clearbrook Baptist Church, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Roanoke chapel of Lotz Funeral Home with Pastor Olander "Red" English and Pastor John Ott officiating. Interment will follow in the Adkins Family Cemetery, Penhook. The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at
