He was a member of the Brandon American Legion Post #55. Affectionately known as "Frenchy," he married his wife of 33 years, Mabel Betsy Clark, in Forestdale on December 31, 1978. She predeceased him May 11, 2011. Together, Fernand and his wife, Mabel, enjoyed camping and traveling the eastern states, primarily New England regions.
He is survived by two sons, Fernand Jr., Leicester, and Bernard, Chittenden; and two daughters, Ginger Gould, Brandon, and Linda King, Cornwall. Additional survivors are three brothers, Armand and Ernest of North Ferrisburgh and Richard Breault of Connecticut; and two sisters, Jeanette Lussier of North Ferrisburgh and Yevette Sturtevant, New Haven; 19 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Surviving are many nieces and nephews and cousins, as well as an extended family including Marshall and Jane Hier of Pittsford.
The funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home, Brandon, with the Rev. Albert "Skip" Baltz officiating. The private graveside committal and burial with full military honors will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, in the Fairfax Plains Cemetery, Fairfax, Vt. Friends may call at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society , 734-9 U.S. Route 4, Rutland, VT 05701; or the Rutland Area Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, 7 Albert Cree Drive, Rutland, VT 05701.
