Roseanna N. "Rosie" Squires Allen, 57, widow of Joseph Michael Allen of Ulster RR 2, Ulster Township, Pa., went home to Heaven to be reunited with her husband following a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, June 23, 2004.
Born August 2, 1946 in Sayre, Pa., she was the daughter of Ruth Goodrich Squires and the late Leo Squires. Roseanna was a graduate of Towanda High School. On March 23, 1968, she married Joseph Michael Allen at the North Towanda United Methodist Church.
In early years, Roseanna was employed as a nurses aide at the Bradford County Manor in West Burlington and the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. She was employed by the Green Thumb at the Senior Citizens Center in Towanda for two years until declining health no longer permitted her to continue. Roseanne enjoyed reading, talking with friends on the telephone and shopping. Roseanna was a loving and caring person who was always giving of herself and to others.
Surviving are her children, Angela Oakley of Athens, Pa., Rebecca Allen of Towanda, Valerie Allen of Ulster, Steven Allen and his wife Amy Allen of Ulster; four grandchildren, Dustin Allen, Brandon Oakley, Bradlee Allen, and Nathan Allen; her mother, Ruth Goodrich Squires of North Towanda; her brother and sister-in-law; Richard and Kasha Squires of San Antonio, Texas; sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia and Richard Hillis of Muncy, Pa., Mary and Robert Getz of Dushore, Pa.; her sister, Julie Squires of Bryans Road, Md.; her brother, Paul Squires of Lebanon, Pa., several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; her canine companions, Angel and Corky. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Joseph Michael Allen on June 7, 2003.
A graveside funeral service will be held Friday, June 25 at 10 a.m. at the Ulster Cemetery, Ulster, Pa., with the Rev. A. Michele Somerville, pastor of the North Towanda United Methodist Church, officiating. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa. The family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to the Bradford County Humane Society, P.O. Box 179, Ulster, Pa., 18850, in Roseanna's memory.
