Birth: Jan. 25, 1833
Wabash County
Illinois, USA
Death: Dec. 18, 1905
Wabash County
Illinois, USA

Moses was born to Lewis Thomas Armstrong and Martha "Patsy" (Wood) Armstrong. Moses married Sarah Jane Grayson on November 19, 1861 in Wabash County, Illinois. To this union was born six children: 1.Emma(1862), 2.Lavina Rose(1864), 3.William H.(1867), 4.Edwin C.(1869), 5.Clayborn(1870), 6.Clinton(1872).

Mr.Armstrong was a man of most kindly traits of charactor and generous impulses. He was in his seventy-second year. He was born and lived in the same neighborhood in which he died.

He was survived by one daughter, Miss Emma Armstrong, and two sons, Clinton and William Armstrong. His wife had died a number of years before his death.

Moses was the last survivor of ten children born to Lewis and Mary Armstrong, pioneers of Wabash County. He was the grandson of John Armstrong, of Irish ancestry, who came from Tennessee to Illinois in 1815.

Politically Mr.Armstrong was a Democrat, as were all of that branch of the Armstrong family from time immemorial. His first presidential vote was cast for James Buchanan in 1856, and he voted for every Democratic candidate for President since that date.

The Armstrong family, of which the deceased was a member has always been prominent in the affairs of Wabash County. Abner Armstrong was the first Sheriff of Edwards County, of which Wabash County was then a part, when the county seat was at old Palmyra. John Armstrong and Thomas J. Armstrong were County Judges and Berkley Armstrong was a County Commissioner.

The Armstrong family were pioneers in four states - North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Illinois, settling here before Illinois was a state and while the Indians still roamed the forests.

The annoucement of the death of "Mose" Armstrong brought tears to the eyes of many. He was known to almost every man, woman, and child of the community as "Uncle Mose" and the heartly welcome, good cheer and hospitality of his house will be missed by each and all.
