From a 1907 Nance County, Nebraska, newspaper clipping file, transcribed by Linda Berney:
The grim messenger of death, always bearing tidings of the utmost sadness and desolation, regardless of the bitter pangs felt in the hearts of those whose dear ones are born away. Thursday at noon the grim messenger visited the home
of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Yarrington and removed their only son, Lester Vern, aged 5 years, 6 months and 20 days, after an illness lasting over four months.
All that loving hands and medical skill could do was done to relieve his suffering but to no avail.
He leaves beside his father and mother, one sister, and a host of relatives to mourn his death.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 11 o'clock at the Glenwood church by Rev. Henderson of Palmer. The parents of the deceased have the heartfelt sympathy of the community in this their hour of sorrow.
