One of the most revered pioneers of Southport(now Kenosha), Thomas Howland arrived here in 1835, and settled along 22nd ave(formerly called Howland Ave)at 69th street(today's the site of Anderson Park). Thomas Howland lived a good life, raising seven sons and three daughters, with all iving to maturity except a daughter,Rosetta. He was one of the organizers of the agricultural and Horticultural societies in the area, a skill that he found much success in. He lived in Kenosha until 1869, then spent four years in Missouri with one of his sons, and finally finished out his days at Fort Howard,Green Bay,WI. His remains were brought back to Kenosha upon his death, and a large procession of old neighbors and friends followed to the cemetery.

His parents are John Howland and Mary Elizabeth "Marcy" Kirby - both buried in Jackson Township, Brown County, Ohio - no cemetery found yet. His father was a Revolutionary War Vet. (Info on John and Mary courtesy of Jauers)
