Jack Edward Vanik, age 97, a resident of Rio Rancho, NM, since 1973, passed away on October 10, 2004. Jack was born in Pittsburgh, PA on Januray, 24, 1907, to Frank and Helen Vanik. From an early age he had many interesting careers and occupations. Among these were cattle ranching and travels throughout most of the United States. Jack served in the cavalry branch of the United States Army. During World War II, he served with the Canadian Army. Jack participated in rock and mineral clubs as well as hot-air ballooning. Jack played on the Rio Rancho Meadowlark Center baseball team and in the jug band. Jack and his wife, Millie, who preceded him in death, were members of the Rio Rancho Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where Jack once served as a deacon. Jack is survived by a sister, Helen Lubiak, and a niece, Shirley Ferreo, of Waterford, PA. Memorial services will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Rio Rancho Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
