Deceased Name: Rites for David Aronofsky, 78, longtime dentist, will be Friday
Services for Dr. David H. Aronofsky, a Dallas dentist who helped countless people overcome alcoholism, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home.

Dr. Aronofsky, 78, died in his sleep at his Dallas home Monday.

Although he practiced dentistry for 53 years in Dallas,

"David helped literally tens of thousands of people," said Esther Bauer, former vice president of corporate communications at Parkland hospital. "He was a tremendous speaker, and he shared his experience, strength and hope. There's just not another person like him."

A Dallas native, Dr. Aronofsky graduated from Southern Methodist University and the Baylor University College of Dentistry. He served in the Navy during World War II and was assigned to the Marines during the Korean War.

Dr. Aronofsky was a former member of the county and state chapters of the American Dental Society. He was a fellow of the American Academy of General Dentistry, a fellow of Research Academy of Oral Exodontists and was certified in head and neck cancer treatment.

While at SMU, Dr. Aronofsky was a member of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity.

In addition to his wife, Dr. Aronofsky is survived by two sons, David Judd Aronofsky of Missoula, Mont., and Donald Alan Aronofsky of Chicago, and two grandchildren.
