During Operation KINGFISHER, under the OPCON (Operational Control) of the 9th Marines, The Battalion CP was at the Marine FSB at Con Thien, Hill 158 in northern Quang Tri Province. The defensive position came under heavy NVA mortar, rocket and artillery fire on September 25 which resulted in the deaths of seven men. LCpl Green was one of the casualties, he was killed by fragmentation wounds from the hostile artillery fire.
