Obituary

Amos Vance was born in Randolph County, Indiana, December 17, 1835, and passed away August 9, 1918, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jesse Shove, at the age of 82 years, 7 month and 25 days.

He was an active man until June 6, 1918 when he was stricken with paralysis which confined him to the house until the time of his death. Mr. Vance was a faithful member of the Christian Church of Havensville and a Civil War veteran. He entered the service of the government on October 11, 1862 serving one year in Company C 54th regiment of Infantry Indiana under Captain L. C. Beckford.

The deceased leaves to mourn his death five children, Mrs. Martha Hamar, Toledo, Oregon, Mrs. Belle Johnson, Monmouth, Oregon, Wm. Vance, Asotin, Washington, Geo. Vance, Denver, Colorado, and Mrs. Jesse Shove, Havensville, Kansas. 28 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held in the Christian church of Havensville Sun day August 11 conducted by Rev. Wiles of Soldier, Kansas. Interment was in the Havensville cemetery.
Those attending the funeral from out of town were: Mrs. Olive E. Norris, son, Claude; and daughter, Mona, San Diego, Californian; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Shove, Topeka, Kansas, Roy Vance, Norton, Kansas, Mrs. Ruth Sholty , Holton, Kansas.
