Jess Ivan McKnight, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at the age of 83 at the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was born on December 1, 1920 in Minersville, Utah to David Ivan and Cassie Myers McKnight. They lived on a farm in Milford, Utah for many years. Upon graduation from Milford High School, he attended Utah State University and BYU.

Jess served in the US Navy during World War II as a navy hospital corpsman. While stationed in San Francisco he met and married his wife, Joan Schwatka on July 8, 1945.

After completing his military service they returned to Milford to farm with his parents.

In 1958 the family moved to Sandy and Jess began work at the VA hospital. His employment there involved several different positions including nurses aide and supply technician.

He retired in 1979 and spent his time gardening and taking care of the house. Jess and Joan spent many happy times traveling and camping with the Good Sams club. He never lost his love for nature, ranch and farm life.

He is survived by his wife, Joan, their children Marget (Neldon Kunz), Dale Jess (Harriet), Alan Robert (Linda) and Aileen (Victor Dancer), 10 grandchildren and two great-grand-children.

He was preceded in death by his half brother Karl Murdock, and half sister Loretta Cline.
