Herbert C. Byrum, Sr., Route 1, Edenton, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Lane, at 11 A. M., Monday following an extended illness. He was 80.
Mr. Byrum, a native of Chowan County, was a son of the late Frank V. and Martha G. Boyce Byrum. His marriage was to the former Mennie Perry.
He was retired from Edenton Cotton Mill.
Surviving are two sons; Herbert C. Byrum, Jr., of Edenton; and Frank W. Byrum of Greenville, Miss.; three daughters; Mrs. Lucy Mae Lane and Mrs. Mabel B. Bass, both of Edenton; and Mrs. Gladys B. King of Hobbsville; two sisters: Mrs. Euinice Dail of Hertford and Mrs. Fannie Bunch of Edenton; two half-brothers: Robert L. Byrum of Edenton; and Jessie O. Byrum of Norfolk, Va.; three half-sisters: Mrs. Josie Morris of Edenton, Mrs. Helen Mansfield of Hertford and Mrs. Patty Peele of Norfolk, Va.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was a member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church where funeral services were held at 3 P. M., Wednesday with Rev. Meredith Garrett in charge. Burial was in the Byrum Family Cemetery.
Colonial Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
