LeRoy Dibble was the son of Catherine VanDeusen (Bitely) and Gradus Dibble. In 1878, he married Martha Hutchins Cleveland, daughter of Mary M (Lang) and Rev. Edward Cleveland of Bath, New Hampshire. She was born 18 November 1845, and died 1944 in Kansas City, Missouri. LeRoy first practiced at Paw Paw, Michigan, later specialized in the diseases of the eye, ear and throat. He studied in various parts of Europe and America before settling in Kansas City, Missouri in 1887. Both LeRoy and Martha Dibble (Martha's special work was hospital and reformatory effort for women) were prominent doctors in the Kansas City area, they practiced out of the Wood's Building, 101-107 W. 9th Street, Kansas City, Missouri. In 1916, Martha and LeRoy donated the land, in Kansas City to Grinnell College and Grinnell College built the Dibble Building on that site, and then sold the property in 1944. Between 1919 and 1926, the Dibbles donated money for a scholarship fund, which by 1926 was $100,000. In 1921, the trustees proposed naming the two dormitories for them (which built Dibble Hall for men & Cleveland Hall for women). In the days when Dibble Hall was a home to men only, its residents were known for athletic prowess in intramurals and for serenading their girlfriends with the "Dibble Sweetheart" song. While LeRoy's Dibble's death Certificate states that he was buried in the Freeman Receiving Vault, Kansas City, Missouri, his wife's death certificate states that she was buried at Forest Hill and Freeman Mortuary handled her burial.
