DANIEL JOHNSON
Daniel Johnson, son of J. J. and Mary Johnson, was born February 2, 1838, in Madison county, Ohio, and was the fifth child of a family of thirteen.
In 1854 he came with his parents to Warren county, Illinois, coming later to Louisa county, Iowa, where he enlisted in Co. C., 5th Regiment of Iowa Volunteers on July 1, 1861 and served until the close of the war, receiving an honorable discharge.
He returned to Warren county, Illinois and was united in marriage to Miss Mary C. Schrum March 8, 1866, coming the same year to a farm north of Russell, making Lucas county his home, with the exception of three years which were spent near his old home in Illinois.
He passed away March 14 at his home in Cedar township, after an illness of two and one half months, surrounded by all of his children.
He leaves to mourn his loss a loving wife and ten children, five sons and five daughters, Mrs. Alice Whittlesey, Louis M., William E., Mrs. Nettie McKinley, Mrs. Addie Wright, Jessie R., James S., Mrs. Mary Gookin, Albert A., and Mrs. Olive E. Kimler, all residing near Russell except Mrs. McKinley, who lives near Leon and Mrs. Wright, who lives near Chariton.
He leaves 37 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, 5 brothers and 4 sisters, and a host of friends to mourn his loss. He was a kind and affectionate husband and father, a good neighbor and citizen.
Funeral services were held at the Bethel church, conducted by Rev. George J. Cornford, assisted by Rev. Chase, of LaGrange. Interment was in the Bethel cemetery.
