Kurt was born in April of 1913, son to Paul Berner and Berta Backhau, in Schlotheim, Germany. He was drafted into the German army in 1939 and was captured by the Russians in 1941. Kurt spent nearly eight years in a Russian prison camp, many of which were after the war was over. He returned home in 1949 and married Johanna Palubitski in 1950. In 1952 they decied to immigrate to the United States to join Johanna's sister who was already in the states. They took up residence in Northampton Ma and in 1953 they had there only child Joan.
He spent his years working at Pro Brush in Florence and later driving school kids back and forth to school.
Kurt lived to be 99 years old and was one of the nicest and kindest people one could ever meet. He will be forever sorely missed.
