Weiner was our beautiful but neurotic Blue Point Himalayan. He had always been an indoor cat but he would sit and stare out the window with such longing that we finally relented and allowed him to go outside. He and his "brother"
Pee Wer (Chinchilla Shaded Persian) loved their new freedom. Although we live in a subdivision on a dead-end street, a neighbor's heavy foot cost Weiner his life. About a year later, Pee Wer met the same end. We also have seven adopted starvlings, the first coming to us in 1993. These seven have all been indoor/outdoor cats just as Weiner and Pee Wer were and yet, I suspect our starvlings have more street smarts than their pedigreed cousins had.

Weiner had the funniest habit. He loved to carry around in his mouth those fabric covered elastic bands used to hold ponytails. When he'd have one in his mouth, he'd make this wailing cry. It's the sort of cry our other cats make when they actually have caught something...a lizard, a mole, or whatever. Weiner made the killer cry when he "caught" a ponytail holder. He also liked to put the ponytail holder in his bowl of Science Diet kibbles. He'd eat around it. If he accidentally picked it up with a mouthful of kibbles and it would drop out of his mouth onto the floor, he'd pick it back up and place it back in the bowl before he'd continue eating. We went to the beach each year and Weiner and Pee Wer would come along as well. One summer after we arrived at the beach, Weiner refused to eat. We couldn't figure out what was wrong. We brought his Science Diet that he loved. We were all together. Pee Wer was with him. He didn't act sick. What could it be? Then it dawns on us. He didn't have any ponytail holders scattered on the floor. He couldn't eat without those things in his bowl. So we threw a few on the floor and the next thing you know, we hear Weiner's familiar cry. He carries one around for a while then drops it in his bowl and starts to eat.

He was a riot. We absolutely adored him. We all miss him so much.
