LODGE GRASS, Mont. — James Drake, 70, of Lodge Grass died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, in the Big Horn County Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place in the Bullis Mortuary-Eastern Montana Crematory. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Interment of the ashes with military honors will follow in the Little Big Horn Battlefield National Cemetery. Mr. Drake was born June 23, 1930, in Crow Agency, Mont., to William and Maude Jones Drake. He was educated in the Hardin, Mont., area. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1947. He married Margaret Nepper Aug. 25, 1957, in Hardin. The couple made their home in Lodge Grass. He worked at the Custer (now Little Big Horn) Battlefield National Cemetery, Fox Oil Company and various farms and ranches before going into a 30-year career in construction. He retired in 1996. He was a life member of the American Legion and VFW. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Barry; and two brothers, Ira and Howard. Survivors include his wife, of Lodge Grass; a daughter, Karen Schneider of Hardin; two sons, Steve of Crow Agency and Roger of Billings; four sisters, Opal Sams of Sheridan, Hazel Davis of Hardin, Gertrude Denny of Garryowen, Mont., and Betty Chimienti of Spokane, Wash.; a brother, Darrell Drake of Sheridan; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
