Mrs. Frances Stearns, age 93, recently of Austell, Ga., passed away December 5, 2010. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, August 20, 1917, to Ruth Miller Prettyman and Clyde Prettyman. Her undergraduate degree was from Earlham College, in Indiana, and she earned two master's degrees in biological sciences. Frances was a teacher for many years in Columbia, S.C. She had many hobbies, including all things scientific, and was an avid gardener and insatiable reader. She and her husband enjoyed many years at their lake home in Haynesville, N.C. After retirement, they moved to Atlanta, Ga., to be near family. Frances will be greatly missed by her family.
Mrs. Stearns was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Mr. Winthrop Stearns Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Suzanne Anderson of Atlanta, Ga., Tamsin and husband, Ken Sandin, of Atlanta, Holly and husband, Rob Tiger, of Hiawassee, Ga., and Melissa and husband, Steve Meadows, of Columbia, S.C. Her grandchildren are Lauren Tiger, Eric and wife, Jamie Sandlin, Brett Sandlin, and Amelia and Kristen Meadows.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Presbyterian Homes Caring Hands Fund, 2000 East West Connector, Austell, GA 30106.
