James was the son of James and Mahala Conrad.

James and Mahala are both buried in Hutton Cemetery.

He was married to Mary Elizabeth Largent in 1858. She died in 1872 and is buried in Hutton Cemetery along with several children who died in infancy.

James married Jennie Amick in 1879. They had a child who died in infancy.

Uncle Jimmy Conrad, as he was familiarly known, was honored and respected by all who knew him.
