Marquette - Roger L. Cowan, 73, of Marquette, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000 at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Central City. The Rev. Joy Savage will officiate. Mr. Cowan was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to Tabitha Hospice. The Solt Funeral Home of Central City is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Cowan was born on Jan. 24, 1927, in Danville, Va., to Clarence and Lillie Cowan. He attended George Washington High School.
He entered the U.S. Navy November of 1944 and served in the South Pacific until 1946 when he returned to Danville and began working for Imperial Tobacco Company. In 1951 he entered the U.S. Air Force and served until his retirement in August 1969.
He was employed by LeFebure Corp. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, as vice president of sales until his retirement in 1992 when he moved to Marquette.
He married Shirley L. Melcher on Oct. 8, 1988 in Denver.
He was a member of the Scottish Rite of Sioux City, Iowa, and the Masonic Lodge 436 of Gadbrook, Iowa.
Mr. Cowan enjoyed woodworking, especially building birdhouses and reproductions of historical buildings in the area.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; four sons, Todd of Denver, Colo., Paul of Olathe, Kan., Roger of Colbert, Ga., and Arden Nagengast of Lincoln; one daughter, Diane Hyde of Littleton, Colo.; nine
grandchildren and two sisters, Evelyn Hardy and Lois Walker, both of Danville, Va.
He was preceded in death by a twin granddaughter and by two brothers, Kenneth and Richard Cowan.
