Helen Chambers Hill was born near Shawnee Prairie, Texas, in Angelina County on February 25, 1928, to Mary "Bama" Franklin Chambers and Robert Edward Chambers and she died peacefully on June 13, 2009, at the age of 81.

Mrs. Hill, a devout long-time member of the Old Angleton Road Church of Christ, resided in Brazoria County most of her adult life, teaching both fifth and sixth grades at T.W. Ogg Elementary and Clute Intermediate for 35 years. Although retired in 1992, she often visited with her teaching friends.

Mrs. Hill grew up in both Nancy and Zavalla during the Great Depression. She picked cotton, between her other farm chores. During the summer of 1943 she lived in Mexico City, attending the American School. After graduating from Zavalla High School in 1944, she attended Texas Woman's University, later graduating from Stephen F. Austin State University. Wedding vows were spoken in June of 1952 when she married returning Korean War veteran Robert Chandler Hill at the Church of Christ in Zavalla.

Mrs. Hill possessed an inborn sense of curiosity and wonder about the world around her. She conversed about politics, read about all types of people ranging from Mao Zedong to Winston Churchill. She enjoyed watching football and basketball games, and she devoted herself to her family. Not liking to cook, she enjoyed eating out at a variety of restaurants and she relished traveling both near and far in search of exotic folks and unusual places. Mrs. Hill possessed a strong work ethic, as she sought to convey the necessary knowledge to her many students so they would grow and prosper as productive adults. She regaled us with her stories of days long past, and we will greatly miss her good sense of humor and her gentle chidings that we should take our vitamins and read our Bibles.

She is survived by her sons, Mark Hill and Greg Hill, both of Lake Jackson; her brother, Franklin Chambers of Lufkin; her sister and brother-in-law, Janiece Chambers Marshall and Kellon S. Marshall of Port Neches, along with three nieces and four nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Chandler Hill.
