"PINKERTON FUNERAL HELD TODAY, Succumbed Tuesday Morning at His Home On Mission Creek; Lived Here 25 Years
Final rites were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock for J. A. Pinkerton; pioneer of the Wenatchee and Okanogan valleys, from Kuelbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Waldo Pierson of the local Methodist church reading the service. Mr. Pinkerton passed away at his home on Mission Creek Tuesday morning following a 3 weeks illness.
The deceased was born in Portland, Maine, on December 27, 1849. He was 86 years, 10 months and 10 days old at the time of his death.
He came to Cashmere with his family in 1911 from Conconally, where he resided with his family 15 years and figured largely in the pioneer development of the Okanogan country. In Cashmere he and Mrs. Pinkerton operated a millinery store one year and since that time they have lived on an orchard tract one mile up Mission Creek.
In spite of his advanced age Mr. Pinkerton remained active to the last, performing his usual duties around the home and until three years ago conducting his orchard personally.
Mrs. Maude Sellars and Mrs. Einos Barnes sang two songs at the services with Mrs. C. M. Erickson at the organ.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bessie Pinkerton; two daughters, Mrs. H. H. Braggins and Mrs. M. J. Fisher of Cashmere; three sons, W. O. Pinkerton and T. R. Pinkerton of Cashmere and H. J. Pinkerton of Wenatchee, a sister, Margaret Thompson of Little Toronto, Ont., Can., and a brother, Hamilton Pinkerton of Chehalis, Wash.; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Bearers were C. A. Phillips, C. M. Erickson, A. H. Mohler, W. Kinney, Tom Hudson and George Noeker.
Burial was made in the Cashmere Cemetery."
