|Death: ||Sep. 21, 1858|
Lewis came to Wisconsin from Alabama sometime before 1850 with David Hendricks and Samuel Hendricks who were likely either brothers or cousins. They were together in Crawford County, Wisconsin at the time of the 1850 federal census. The three had several property dealings with each other in Chippewa County during the next few years. David's family had joined him by the time of the 1855 Wisconsin state census, but Samuel was living alone, and Lewis was apparently living with someone of another surname and doesn't appear on the list of heads of household.
David died in May 1857 in a logging accident. Lewis died in September 1858 in a similar accident. Samuel, who served as co-administrator of David's estate together with David's wife Malinda, returned to Alabama just two months later, as if Lewis' death had ended his need to stay in Wisconsin.
Lewis is buried just several spaces over from David, alongside David's daughter Elizabeth Rheingans.
