Andrew died in 1839, leaving Sarah with five young children to raise. In the 1850 census, Sarah is enumerated with Susan Funk, a neighbor of her brother John Lecron, Susan's husband Henry having passed away the year before. Sarah continued to live in Washington Township until her death on July 19th, 1880. In June of 1880, just three weeks before her death, she is enumerated in the City of Waynesboro, with her widowed daughter, Susan Heckman.

Sarah was reinterred from the German Reformed Churchyard (most likely Trinity, in Waynesboro or perhaps Salem, southwest of Waynesboro) to Green Hill Cemetery sometime after 1899.
