THE WALSTON FAMILY

The Walstons emigrated from Green County, Scotland, in 1676. Two brothers, Risdon and Joshua settled in North Carolina. Both reared large families. Risdon Walston was one of Washington's captains in the Revolutionary War. Joshua was a hatter.

Henry Walston, a descendant of Risdon Walston, was born in Georgia, December 31, 1799. He moved to Texas. That Henry Walston had the true pioneer's intrepidity his method of reaching his new home will show. He left Georgia in a home-made boat. He made one mistake when he struck the Texas coast. He came up the Trinity River thinking it .was the Brazos. He settled on the Trinity River in 1856. There he remained until his death January 4, 1885. His remains were laid to rest in Pilgrim Cemetery. One son of Henry Walston lives on the Trinity River, near Oakwood, today.
