He was the son of Robert E. Russell and Helen P. Hooper Russell (mother Helen was born and is buried in Newport News, Virginia). Husband of Mary Lee O'Neal Russell. Father of five -- Julie Ann Russell Walker, Leigh Ann Russell Hickox, Rev Robert H. ("Bobby") Russell, Jr., Andrea Russell Dixon and Suzanne Russell all of whom survive him.
Robert was a native of Waterbury, Connecticut. He had lived in Pierce County for the last twelve years of his life. He was a graduate of the Luther Rice Seminary where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical Studies and was also a member of the Piedmont Okefenokee Baptist Association. He was a retired Baptist minister having served as pastor for several churches in south Georgia and having last served the Crawford Street Baptist Church in Waycross.
Survivors also include two sisters, Rosalie Renfrew, Avon, CT and Lynn (Marcus) White, WI; a brother, James E. Russell III, Annapolis, MD; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Russell, Allee Russell, Hannah Walker, Jennifer Hickox, Caleb Hickox, Zachary Dixon and Seth Dixon and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2005, from the Crawford Street Baptist Church.
Interment followed in the Bristol Cemetery.
