Carey Inskeep Aged Resident of City, Dies: Carey Inskeep, pioneer resident,banker, and businessman of Ottumwa, died last evening at 11 o'clock at his home, 505 Hawthorne avenue. Death followed a long illness. Mr. Inskeep was born in Hillsboro Ohio January 4, 1836 and came Iowa overland in the year 1848 , settling in Wapello county. His first home in this county was on the south of the Des Moines river in that part of the city which is now South Ottumwa. He made his boyhood home on this farm. Later he entered business and for years conducted a general store at the corner of Main and Market streets, now occupied by the Sargent Drug Store. For several years he was cashier of the First National Bank but gave up this position owing to ill health and entered the real estate business. When the Citizens' Savings bank was organized, Mr. Inskeep returned to the banking business where he remained for several years. At the time of his death he was a director of the First Trust and Savings bank. On November 18, 1862, Mr. Inskeep was united in marriage to Miss Alice Chambers who preceded him in death by thirty six years. Later he married Miss Mattie M. Potter, who, with his six children survives. The children are Charles C Inskeep of Chula Vista, Calif., Miss Lou E. Inskeep, Miss Marla E. Inskeep and T. J Inskeep all of this city; E. A. Inskeep of Denver Colo., and Miss Alice C. Inskeep of Cedar Rapids. The funeral will be private at 10 o'clock, Monday morning, from the home of Mr. Inskeeps daughter, Miss Lou Inskeep 707 Center Avenue. --

Other positions of leadership and activities included: Carey -- City trustee, second ward 1881-1884; Cashier, City Savings Bank, Ottumwa; Secretary Sunday School; signed articles of incorporation of City Savings Bank: Mattie -- Mary Brooks Thrall Bible Class was incorporated as the Ottumwa Hospital Association, signed the original articles of incorporation.
