Bubba The Cat
Birth: May 14, 1989
Death: Jan. 5, 2007

Bubba came to my family in Austin, Texas by wandering into our open garage on a warm summer day in 1989. He was just a tiny kitten. As we were not looking for a cat at the time, we tried to very gently shoo him away with a broom. Every time we guided him out of the garage he came right back in again, over and over again. Finally, someone picked him up and held him to their shoulder. He started sucking on their earlobe trying to find some milk. It was so cute that he just had to become part of the family. He continued the earlobe sucking for several years. Our veterinarian estimated his birth date for us.

Bubba had a pampered life in a loving household. He suffered one tragedy when his best friend cat, Vanna, playfully jumped on top of him from a table top and broke his hip. The vet had to remove his hip joint which we thought would cripple him. Instead, as the vet promised, he fully recovered to the point he didn't even have a noticeable limp and climbed and jumped around just like a normal cat.

Bubba was really good with both kids and adults. He would allow you to cradle him upside down in your arms and scratch his tummy. He would stretch out his arms during this and open and close his paws in a kneading fashion showing his approval. He had more of a kitty bark than a meow. I could just say his name aloud and he would talk back to me with little short barks. The only time he would be upset with me is if I had to leave town for an extended period and thus had to board him at the vet's office. Upon returning home he might not speak to me for a couple of days, but would always forgive me soon after we were back together.

Bubba was with me for 17 years, 7 months, 3 weeks and 1 day. In his later years he developed diabetes and I had to give him insulin shots twice a day for his last two years. He finally succumbed to mouth cancer and old age. Until the very end, he was the most loving, affectionate, sweet kitty that anyone could hope for. He was deeply loved and is sorely missed. If there is a kitty heaven, I have no doubt he is there now. I hope I can see him again some day.
