Bert D. Payne, 72, of Bloomfield, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, at his home.

He was born Jan. 7, 1935 in Bethany, Mo. to Walter and Erma Turner Payne. After the death of his father, he was raised by his mother and step father, Archie Grabil. Bert married Beulah Carson on May 25, 1956 in Topeka, Kan. She died March 2, 2005.

Bert moved to Bloomfield in 1966 where he worked for the Bloomfield Foundry until his retirement in 1992. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a life member of the V.F.W.

He is survived by a daughter, Brenda Viers of Maxwell, Iowa; two sons, Randal of Ochelata, Okla. and Michael of Bloomfield, Iowa; seven grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Sylvia Woodard of Bagley, Iowa and Becky Beaver of Des Moines, Iowa; four step sisters, Viola Hickman of Minburn, Iowa, Freda Hadley of Indianola, Iowa, Vera Pruitt of Redfield, Iowa, and Virginia Lee Grabill of California; a brother, Stacy of Minburn, Iowa; five step brothers, Harvey Grabill of Adel, Iowa, Oscar Grabill of Des Moines, Iowa, Richard Grabill of Bethany, Mo., William Grabill of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Cecil Grabill of Washington State.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; step father; two brothers, Billy Jo, Basil, Garland and Darrell Payne; and a granddaughter in infancy.

Cremation was accorded.

Burial of the cremains will be in the Bloomfield South Cemetery.
