Obituary of Mrs. David McCreary
Margaret Zadee Richards was born at Cherry Grove, Goodhue county, Minn., March 10, 1866, and died Dec. 14, 1938, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Claude Phelps, near Emmetsburg. Her age at the time of death was 72 years, 9 months and 4 days. When about one year of age, her parents moved to Markesan, Wis., residing there until 1882, when they came to Palo Alto county, Iowa. In 1887, she was united in marriage to David McCreary. To this union were born five children: Clyde of Dodge Center, Minn.; Garth of Winnebago, Minn.; James Lee, who died at damp Cody, Deming, New Mexico, in the service: Mrs. John Phelps, of Slayton, Minn.; and Mrs. Claude Phelps of Emmetsburg, Iowa. She also leaves seventeen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
In 1910, Mr. and Mrs. McCreary moved to Woodbury county, residing there and in Cherokee' county until 1926 when they returned to Palo Alto county, residing in West Bend until Mr. McCreary's death on July 20, 1935. Since then she has been making her home with her children. About forty years ago she united with the Christian church at Curlew, Iowa. While in West Bend, she was a regular attendant of the Methodist church and was active in the Ladies' Aid society. Mrs. McCreary -was also a member of the Bay View Club and of the American Legion
Funeral services were held in the West Bend M.E. church Friday afternoon and were quite largely attended by relatives, and friends. Rev. Geo. R.. had charge of the services. The pall bearers were Geo. Jacobs, Chas. DeWitt, C. B. Thatcher, B. E. Walker, A. J. Jensen arid Frank Koch. Interment was in the local cemetery
