Namdeo Jadav
Birth: Nov. 10, 1921

World War II Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Havildar in the 5th Maratha Light Infantry, Indian Army. In actions at Senio River, Italy, April 9, 1945, when his unit was almost wiped out, Havildar Jadav carried two wounded men under heavy fire across a river to safety. Then he eliminated three enemy machine-gun posts, saving many lives and waved the remaining companies across the river, which enabled the battalion to crush all enemy resistance in the area. For extreme gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
