Mindy Marie Owens, 23, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, August 29, 2013, while surrounded by her family after a 5 year battle with melanoma cancer. She was an Oak Hill graduate and recently received her bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Indianapolis and was well loved by many.
Mindy loved to sing and loved performing with the many choirs she was involved with and thrived on teaching about melanoma awareness. She was employed at AMC Theatres, Marion.
She is survived by her mother and step-father, Gina and Gary Eltzroth; a twin brother, Derek Owens all of Marion; three step-brothers, Drew and Dereck Eltzroth of North Manchester and Steven Owens of Fairmount; two step-sisters, Casey Eltzroth of Mentone and Alicia Rennaker of Fairmount; grandmother, Linda Owens of Marion; step-grandparents, Gary and Gloria Eltzroth of Wabash; step-mother, Michelle Owens of Fairmount, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, William Gene and Mary Ellen Smith; grandfather, Coy Owens and her father, Michael Owens.
There will be a memorial dinner to be held at Friendship Baptist Church, 1921 W. Spencer Avenue, Marion, on September 5, 2013 from 6-8 pm where Mindy attended.
