Obituary Of Homer Janes.
Homer H. Janes died at his home in Green Lake, October 5th and was buried Thursday afternoon on the family lot in Blufton cemetery.
Elizah Janes and Sarah Burwell, his wife, came to Wisconsin in its early history and settled in Rock county where Homer was born, May 24, 1843, The family moved to Green Lake county in 1846, building tbe first bouse erected by white man in what is now Berlin township.
There were besides Homer, seven children, Mary, Myra, Elmer and Mason, wbo are dead and Alice Janes and Mrs. Frank Farvour of Ripon and S. A. Janes who lives on the old homestead four miles south, of Berlin. Educated in the country's schools, Mr. Janes grew to manhood on the farm where he was married in 1866 to Armeeda McConnell.
In 1875 be moved to the farm home at Mt Tom which he owned at the time of his death. To this union five children were born, Jessie, the wife of Chas. Palmer of Green Lake,
Chas. Janes, who lives on the farm, May, wife of Allie Long of Markesan, William, who died at the age of 16, and Ellna, the wife of E. R. Brooks of Green Lake. At the death of Mrs. Janes' mother in 1896 the family Came to make their home in Green Lake in the Mc Connell home, bringing with then also, a little girl Nellie, the daughter of a neighbor who has always been like an Own child to tbem and who mourms the death of Mr. Janes as
an own father. Homer Janes was a member of the M. W. A., served as a member of the town board and was several times re-elected as resident of the village. He was a kind
and genial neighbor and a true and generous friend. His illness has extended over a period of four years but he Was confined to the house only about three weeks and
suffered no pain but grew weaker day by day until his death on the morning of Oct. 5th.
His life was one of genial good will and during his last illness his great delight was to welcome a friend, and to be constantly surrounded by his children and grand-children of whom there are ten and one great grand-child, Vivian Burling, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Loy Burling of Green Lake. His constant companion and especial favorite
was his little grand-child, Jesse Brooks, who with his mother and father made her home with her grand-parents. They were "chums" and no dearer sight can be imagined than the comradeship between the little girl of seven and the gray haired grand-father.
