Benjamin was a boat captain who also designed and built boats when he was a young man. A brief history of this from 1903 can be found at: Forest and stream - Google Books http://bit.ly/nnCmHs. He was elected sheriff of old Gloucester County, was a train conductor when the first trains ran through the county, but still maintained his love for boats. He had moved to Philadelphia by 1850 because he can be found there in that census with wife Elizabeth. Information on his death and burial are from his death certificate: FamilySearch.org — Free Family History and Genealogy Records http://bit.ly/qhsmF5.
