Lee Anthony Nettles, 40, of Blackshear, died unexpectedly and peacefully in his sleep Saturday morning, September 1, 2012.
Born on December 13, 1971, he was one of twin sons of the Reverend Warnie Nettles and Judy Buck Nettles. Born two months premature, Lee's lungs weren't fully developed, and throughout the years, Lee would suffer many health problems. A former resident of Brunswick, GA and Columbia, SC, Lee had been a resident of Blackshear for the past seven years. At the age of eight, Lee sat down at the piano and began to play. He had an ear for music; he could hear a song for the first time, sit down at the piano and repeat it's beautiful sound. Lee never took a music lesson and attributed his renowned talent to God. He played for many civic groups, conventions, including the Georgia State Physician's Convention, social events, and served as Pianist/Keyboardist for many churches. Lee was an honors graduate of Okefenokee Technical College as a Surgical Technologist. Later, Lee began his nursing career at South Georgia College of Nursing. His steadfast faith in God saw him through his later years of health decline. Lee will be remembered for his unconditional love for others and for his radiant smile. His gentle and kind spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. The legacy he leaves behind serves as a reminder to those whose lives he touched. Lee would say today, "Just think of me as you pass by life---I thought of you as I passed in mine".
Lee leaves behind his parents, Reverend Warnie L. and Judy P. Tanner Nettles of Blackshear; his twin brother, Christopher L. Nettles of South Carolina; a sister, Shelly P. Barber of Brunswick; two brothers, Joshua A. (Kala) Nettles, and Jonathan A. Nettles, both of Blackshear; a niece, Jade Nettles; nephews, Sheldon D. Barber, Gavin McQuaig, Joshua A. Nettles, II, and Simon J. Nettles; aunts and uncles, Bo and Marie Tanner, Eugene and Colleen Corbitt all of Blackshear, Dewaine and Pennie Tanner of Hortense, Merlene Davis of Dahlonega, Jack and Barbara Nettles of Alma, Joe and Rhonda Nettles of St. George, and Jerry and Janice Nettles of Axson; many cousins and friends; and a best friend, Sherry Nettles of Atlanta. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Earlie and Dorothy Tanner, and paternal grandparents, Joseph and Mima Ann Nettles.
A celebration of life service will be held at one o'clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, in the Chapel of Music Funeral Home of Waycross. Honored to officiate is the Reverend Leon I. Guest. Lee's twin brother, Chris, will deliver the eulogy, and his sister, Shelly will give remarks. Interment will follow in Waters Cemetery.
Casket bearers are Joshua Nettles, Jonathan Nettles, Sheldon Barber, Mark Nettles, Tommy Joe Sellers, Devin Taylor, John Jacques, and Roy Brockington, Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be Sherry Nettles, Doug Nettles, Ed and Diane Jacques, Kim Jacques, Sonja Brockington, Charles and Jackie Davis, Sandra Morgan, Robbie and Connie Strickland, Lori Croft, Eric Chavis, and Derrick Chavis. The family will receive friends at Music Funeral Home from 6-9 pm Monday. Flowers are appreciated; however, memorials may be made in Lee's memory to the family.
